AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.

Deer Park, NY - September 13, 2016 - Girls Inc. of Long Island is pleased to announce Janet Marcic as its new executive director! Ms. Marcic brings more than a decade of nonprofit experience to Girls Inc., and is prepared to lead the organization as we continue to meet the needs of girls by providing research-based programming across Nassau and Suffolk Counties. 

"It's an honor to join Girls Inc. of Long Island-- the mission of this organization is needed more now than ever," says Ms. Marcic. "Confident girls grow up feeling secure in themselves. They learn to take action, making positive choices about their own lives and doing positive things for others. They think critically about the world around them. I am excited by the important work ahead and especially excited to meet with individuals that inspire our participants each and everyday."
 
Marcic's community involvement has included serving as board member of Family & Children's Association in Mineola and currently sits on the board of Catholic Migration Services in Brooklyn, NY. For the past 16 years, Ms. Marcic has also been an EMMY® Awards judge for the National Academy of Television Arts, and Sciences, New York Chapter.
