The Long Island Nets, the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, will host their annual local player tryouts, presented by HSS, on Saturday, Sept. 17, at LIU Post, where local basketball hopefuls will have the opportunity to compete for a chance to earn an invitation to the team’s training camp in October.
The two tryouts will occur on the same day, with a morning session followed by an afternoon session. The first will start at 10 a.m., and the second will begin at 2 p.m. Both tryouts will be facilitated by Brooklyn and Long Island Nets basketball operations personnel, who will assess participants through a variety of drills and scrimmages.
Both local player tryouts will be held at LIU Post in the Pratt Recreation Center at 720 Northern Blvd. in Brookville, N.Y. Check-in for the first session will begin at 9 a.m., while check-in for the second tryout will start at 1 p.m.
Former local player tryout success stories include Craig Randall II, a 2021 local tryout participant who appeared in 27 games for Long Island during the 2021-22 season and was named NBA G League Player of the Month for February. Randall II became the first local tryout player in NBA G League history to earn Player of the Month honors. Additionally, four players from Long Island’s local player tryouts in 2019 – Joe Cremo, Jonathan Kasibabu, Angel Nunez and Ash Yacoubou – made their way onto the Long Island Nets roster at various points during the 2019-20 season, with Kasibabu appearing in 36 of the team’s 42 games during his full season with the team and making 26 starts.
Each tryout will be limited to the first 75 applicants who submit the $225 non-refundable registration fee and complete the required registration and waiver forms. Both tryouts will be closed to the public.
Full COVID-19 vaccination is required for participation in Long Island’s local player tryouts. All candidates must pre-register online and be eligible to play in the NBA G League. For more information on the tryouts or to begin the registration process, please visit longislandnets.com.
