Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker recently joined the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club members at their Ninth annual Take a Shot at Cancer Fundraiser. Club Director Ed Walden and Vice-President JosephHocker reported that the club raised $66,000through the fundraiser. One hundred percent of the proceeds generated will be donated to Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition, Lucia’s Angels, and North Fork Breast Health Coalition.
 
“I want to thank the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club and their supporters for hosting this fundraiser for such a worthy cause,” said Legislator Anker. “So many families have been personally impacted by breast cancer, and these charities work to directly support them.”
 
“This year’s ‘Take a Shot at Cancer’ fundraiser was attended by over 250members and guests,” said Joseph Hocker, Vice President of the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club. “It’s great to be able to work with such amazing charities for a cause that is so close to our hearts.”
 
The Peconic River Sportsman’s Club, led by President Mike McEnroy, is a local club in Manorville that aims to maintain the environmental, ecological, and historical integrity of Long Island’s land, water and facilities, as well as preserve and improve wildlife and freshwater habitats. The club has also worked with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to host youth hunting safety programs. In addition to the club’s environmental efforts, they also organize several charitable events and fundraisers whose proceeds are presented to local initiatives, including the Boy Scouts of America, the Girl Scouts of the USA, disabled veterans groups, and local church food banks. 
 
In addition, the club has hosted local and state law enforcements for training and the US Naval Sea Cadets Corps and the Civic Air Patrol for instruction on firearm safety. The club also provides educational programs to members and the public to promote the safe use of firearms.
