AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.

LI-based women/caregiver workplace advocacy/support organization National Association of Mothers’ Centers re-brands and debuts new name, "Mom-mentum."

Massapequa, NY - September 16, 2014 - On September 16, 2014 the National Association of Mothers’ Centers (NAMC) announces and reveals its re-branding initiative, culminating with the launch of its new website and changing its name to “Mom-mentum.” This transformation is being implemented in conjunction with the not-for-profit organization’s reorganized focus and mission and it progressively adapting to the ever-changing market while reflecting the professionalism and ambition of the women and mothers its serves and supports. Mom-mentum is a leading voice and source of support and resources for mothers as they navigate their lives. Its new name reflects the organization’s mission to engage, enrich and empower women, both personally and professionally.
 
Mom-mentum provides leadership, education and advocacy to assist mothers with meeting today’s personal and professional challenges and demands. Programs and initiatives include peer and group support, training through seminars and workshops, professional development and public policy advocacy.​ Under its new name, Mom-mentum remains the only organization in the United States offering mothers support through personal development (Mothers’ Center Groups program), professional development (Work/Life initiatives) and public policy and advocacy (in conjunction with its public policy analyst, Valerie Young in Washington, DC).
 
“Mom-mentum reflects today’s mothers’ different needs. Re-branding enables us to further attract the attention of mothers and provide support and information that is important to them. Our Board of Directors decided to re-brand the organization as a way to restructure our marketing and support programs, as well as update our mission and strategic vision. Renaming National Association of Mothers’ Centers to Mom-mentum will allow our organization to reach an audience of mothers and women of all ages more effectively,” said Sharon Sabba Fierstein, Chairperson, Mom-mentum Board of Directors.
 
This year, Mom-mentum plans to expand its partnerships and programming to offer members a greater, more valued experience. A minimal fee increase is necessary to continue providing the services that members expect and need. In the coming months, the organization will roll out a return-to-work program to help members who have taken an extended leave so they can successfully return to the workplace, will host a Women’s Leadership Conference: Achieving Extraordinary,and build an online community for its members to connect with each other.
 
Mom-mentum, formerly known as the National Association of Mothers Centers (NAMC), is a not-for-profit umbrella organization that develops and supports a nationwide network of Mothers’ Centers.
