Riverhead, NY - September 16, 2016 - The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program at the Academy at Ward Technical Center in Riverhead offers a preschool program that is open to the public. Parents can enroll their children, three to five years old, in a quality preschool experience that is supervised by certified teachers. High school students in the ECE Program are teachers-in-training getting hands-on experience working with preschoolers as they prepare for careers as teachers or child care providers.
The high school students, who are under the close guidance of certified teachers, are learning early childhood techniques, guidance and discipline, health and safety, and learning how to plan and organize a learning environment.
The preschool program is available to parents on a first-come, first-serve basis. The split session program runs Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday with a very low cost of $200 for the school year.
Early Childhood Education Teacher Gini Wagner states, “High school students are studying child development and engage in hands-on work experience with the children under my supervision. We utilize learning centers, hands-on activities, creative arts, physical activity, and opportunities for social and emotional development and growth.”
Parents enrolling their children in the preschool must complete an application form, have all immunizations up-to-date, and transportation must be provided to and from the preschool program.
