Elmont, NY - September 13, 2016 - Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages recognized local school children by awarding “Certificates of Excellence in Reading” to each child who completed the Assembly’s Annual Summer Reading Challenge. In partnership with New York State libraries, the program encourages children to continue reading throughout the summer months.
Nearly 2 million children and teens statewide participated in last year’s summer reading program. During the months of July and August, the program encouraged each child to engage in 40 days of independent reading for a minimum of 15 minutes a day.
“Summer reading programs make a positive impact on student reading levels, ability, and enjoyment,” stated Assemblymember Michaelle Solages. “Recognition of the outstanding accomplishments and achievements of students reinforce the value and impact of summer reading.”
