AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. North Babylon Man Found Dead in Backyard Pool

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the drowning death of a man in a backyard swimming pool in North Babylon tonight.

North Babylon, NY - September 18th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the drowning death of a man in a backyard swimming pool in North Babylon tonight.

The wife and daughter of Thomas Romanello found him unresponsive in a four-foot above ground swimming pool, located at Dollard Drive at approximately 6:35 p.m. With the assistance of a neighbor, Romanello was pulled from the pool and CPR was performed. Romanello was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.

Romanello, 56, of the above address, was wearing swimming trunks and there was a vacuum in the pool. It appears he may have been cleaning the pool to close it for the season. Detectives are investigating whether Romanello suffered a medical event before the drowning.  The death is believed to be non-criminal and an autopsy will be performed by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner to determine cause of death.
