Assemblyman Murray Announces New Law Providing Win-Win For North Patchogue Fire Dept. & Eastern Suffolk BOCES

Uniondale, NY - September 19, 2017 - NYS Assemblyman Dean Murray (R,C,I-East Patchogue) has announced that a bill (A.6970) he authored and passed in June has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The new law allows the Eastern Suffolk BOCES to lease lands and a vacant building for educational purposes virtually free of charge. The land and building was formally used by the North Patchogue Fire District. This agreement benefits both parties as the fire district is absolved of maintenance of the vacant land and building and Eastern Suffolk BOCES now has room to expand and offer better educational services to its students.

"I'm thrilled to have worked closely with state Sen. Tom Croci to deliver what truly is a win-win-win situation,” Murray said. “The North Patchogue Fire Department, Eastern Suffolk BOCES and the taxpayers will all benefit from this plan. These are the types of shared-service arrangements that we have been focusing on to make sure we are all getting the most for our money, and I thank Gov. Cuomo for signing the bill into law."

“I am very proud to partner with Assemblyman Dean Murray to ensure a great old building got a new life, and both the North Patchogue Fire District and BOCES are able to cut costs and save the taxpayers money while still providing great services for our community,” said Sen. Tom Croci (R-Sayville).

“Eastern Suffolk BOCES is extremely grateful to Assemblyman Dean Murray and Sen. Tom Croci for co-sponsoring legislation that paves the way for us to utilize an empty Armory, presently owned by the North Patchogue Fire District. This sharing of resources will not only benefit both organizations, but is consistent with the shared-services initiative coming out of Albany. ESBOCES programs and the students and school districts they serve will benefit from this collaboration,” said Julie Davis Lutz, Ph.D., Eastern Suffolk BOCES chief operations officer.”

“Thank you to Assemblyman Dean Murray and Sen. Tom Croci, this legislation allows the North Patchogue Fire District and BOCES to partner together to share resources and save the taxpayers money,” said Lauren Bozeth, District Secretary North Patchogue Fire District.
