Report: Nassau Police Officers Shoot Samurai Sword-Wielding Assailant

The subject refused to drop the weapon and lunged at the officers, who discharged their weapons, according to officials.

Homicide Squad Detectives are investigating a domestic incident which led to a police involved shooting in Oceanside. 
 
According to detectives, officers responded to a 911 call for a domestic incident on Columbus Avenue. A male, 36, had a verbal dispute with his father and sister. Subject was in possession of various knives. Upon police arrival, officers were interviewing the subject’s father when he entered the room holding knives and then a Samurai sword. Officers gave numerous commands to halt and drop the weapon. The subject refused to comply and lunged at the officers. Both officers discharged their weapons to stop the threat. 
 
Officers performed CPR and called for medical assistance. He was transported to an area hospital and pronounced deceased.
 
The officers were also transported to an area hospital for medical treatment.
 
The investigation is ongoing.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
