Hempstead Man Arrested After Fleeing Traffic Stop, Striking NCPD Cruiser

The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for an Assault that occurred on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 3:18 am in Hempstead.
 
According to Detectives, Bureau of Special Operations Officers while on patrol observed a 2008 Nissan parked on Newman Court. The vehicle had heavily tinted windows and officers could see the interior light was on. 
 
Officers approached the vehicle on foot and asked for the driver’s identification. The defendant, Keshav Mahadeo, 26, of 100 William Street, then fled the scene in his vehicle. 
 
Officers activated their Emergency lights, followed the vehicle and performed a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop near the intersection of Front Street and High Street. Officers approached the vehicle on foot and the defendant put his vehicle in reverse and rapidly accelerated almost striking the officers. 
 
As the defendant drove off he struck the officers vehicle injuring two officers and fled the scene. Hempstead officers were nearby and followed the vehicle which became disabled near the intersection of Front Street and Liberty Street where they were able to remove him from the vehicle and he was placed into custody without further incident. During the investigation a substance believed to be Crack was recovered from the Vehicle. 
 
The defendant was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Two Nassau County officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
 
Keshav Mahadeo is charged with two counts of Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th Degree and numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. He was arraigned at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead on Sunday, September 18, 2022.
