The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that beginning Monday, September 19, both directions of the Meadowbrook State Parkway between the Loop Parkway (Exit M10) and Bay Parkway in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County, will be closed to traffic weeknights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for approximately one week, weather permitting. Motorists should use Wantagh State Parkway as an alternate route.

Beginning Monday, September 26, both directions of the drawbridge will be reduced to one lane until May. The closures and lane reductions are necessary to facilitate the ongoing rehabilitation of the drawbridge over Sloop Channel.

The project includes similar work on the Loop Parkway drawbridge over Long Creek, which will commence next month.

The electronic message signs near the bridge will display additional updates and information.

For up-to-date travel information, call 511, visit www.511NY.org or download the free 511NY mobile app.

Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones.  Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.  Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
