On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 11:00 AM the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office will be holding a graduation ceremony for 16 Deputy Sheriffs and 22 Correction Officers at the Van Nostrand Theatre on the campus of Suffolk County Community College. This is the first time the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office has held a joint graduation ceremony for both the new Correction Officers and Deputy Sheriffs.

The Correction Officers spent the last 13 weeks in a rigorous training program that included instruction in security and supervision, defensive tactics, legal issues, implicit bias training, essential services, chemical weapons and firearms, role play, and more. These new officers join a force consisting of 802 Correction Officers working in the Suffolk County Correctional Facility.

The Deputy Sheriffs trained alongside the Suffolk County Police Department Recruits at the Suffolk County Police Academy. This rigorous six-month training program included instruction in firearms, emergency vehicle operations (EVOC), EMT training, and individualized field training. The newest graduates join a force of 233 Deputy Sheriffs working for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office.

During the ceremony, several awards will be presented to the members of the graduating classes including Sheriff Toulon’s Award for Academic Excellence, Valedictorian, and Physical Fitness and Marksmanship awards.
