On Saturday, September 10th officials gathered to celebrate opening day of the League of YES at the Town of Brookhaven’s Rose Caracappa Park. The League of Yes’ mission is to establish and sustain baseball programs for people of all ages with disabilities.
The new ballfield at Rose Caracappa Park was resurfaced recently and made more accessible for athletes with special needs.
The League of Yes provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to experience the joy and benefits that come from playing baseball. The league helps players develop social skills and increase self-esteem while promoting community support and sponsorship for the league.
The Rose Caracappa Park, located on South Bicycle Path in Farmingville, has two ballfields. One was upgraded in 2021 to an all-abilities accessible 50 Foot Baseball and Multi-Use Synthetic Turf Field with a $250,000 grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant Program. The second field had the asphalt redone, restriped, new fencing was added, and the field was extended to make room for a handicap accessible playground. The League of YES is for individuals with special abilities and operates on fields throughout the Town of Brookhaven.
