AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO MIDNIGHT EDT THURSDAY NIGHT The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam. from midnight tonight to midnight EDT Thursday night. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Fine Particulates. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Long Island, NY - September 21, 2017 - Today, Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) highlighted a new report that shows that the radical Graham-Cassidy Trumpcare bill would explode premiums for Americans with pre-existing conditions by as much as tens of thousands of dollars.
 
“With this extreme version of Trumpcare, Republicans are waging a war on people with pre-existing conditions,” said Rep. Espaillat. “Americans with asthma or arthritis, cancer, diabetes or depression or even pregnancy can be hit with towering and insurmountable premiums.  We all have a loved one who has struggled with an illness; forcing those innocent people to pay tens of thousands of dollars just for having a pre-existing condition is utterly cruel. 
 
“This horrendous bill, the worst yet proposed by Republicans replaces critical tax credits and funding for Medicaid expansion programs with extremely inadequate block grants, severely hindering vital access to health care for our constituents. Republicans must stop attacking the health and pocketbooks of veterans, seniors, women, working families, people with pre-existing conditions and rural communities, just to pursue their agenda of tax cuts for the wealthy.  Democrats are all hands-on deck to defeat the moral monstrosity of Trumpcare. I stand with the people of New York and vow to fight this immoral bill.”
