Suffolk County Legislator Anker Recognizes Gold Star Families

The United States began observing Gold Star Mother’s Day on the last Sunday in September in 1936.

Recently, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker attended the Seventh Annual Gold Star Families Recognition Ceremony at Bartlett Pond Park in Middle Island. The service included songs, prayers, readings, and remarks by the community and local elected officials.
 
“Today, we honor the families of service members who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom, and we remember the heroes they lost,” said Legislator Anker. “Thank you to the Longwood Alliance, the Middle Island Civic Association and the Central Brookhaven Lions Club, the Town of Brookhaven, Coram Fire Department, Middle Island Fire Department, Longwood Central School District, the Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts for organizing and supporting this commemorative event every year.” 
 
The United States began observing Gold Star Mother’s Day on the last Sunday in September in 1936. Today, the nation recognizes the sacrifice that all Gold Star Family members make when a father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, or other loved one dies in service to the nation.
