Sanitation Worker Killed By Garbage Truck in Melville

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash during which a sanitation worker was struck and killed by a garbage truck in Melville this morning.

Melville, NY - September 21, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash during which a sanitation worker was struck and killed by a garbage truck in Melville this morning.

Jose Arroyo was driving a garbage truck in reverse on Weinmann Boulevard when the truck struck Jose Molina, who had been riding on the rear of the truck, at 6 a.m.

Molina, 44, of Brentwood, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Arroyo, 38, of Central Islip, was not injured.

Motor Carrier Safety Section officers conducted a safety inspection on the vehicle and it was released to the owner, Jody Enterprise Inc.

The investigating is continuing.
