Taking over the former Barba Bianca space, Fortino’s Tavern has gotten off to a great start since it opened this summer. Reviewers are revving on Yelp and the water views from their outdoor seating is amazingly enticing.
The menu is no slouch offering appetizers that include Pig and Cheese, a house made lemon honey ricotta, auricchio cheese, orange and rosemary peperonata, crispy pork skins, pancetta, onion jam, and nduja toast ($21). They offer salads like a watermelon salad ($16), blue cheese wedge salad ($15), and a grilled salmon “power” salad ($25).

The entrees include a baked seafood cannelloni, which is hand rolled pasta with scallop, shrimp and lump crab, smoked tomato lobster cream, and fresh basil ($34).
Frank T., of Merrick, said that the restaurant could have done well offering less impressive menu but fortunately, Fortino's Tavern did not chinz on their offerings.

“The big selling point is the dock extended into the bay from the restaurant. Perfect for outdoor dining and what a view of Shelter Island and Greenport,” he wrote. “These types of restaurants can do well with mediocre fare but Fortinos excels in dining options. They have a small menu but it changes every week or so. Everything is homemade and fresh.”
Charmaine S. from the North was equally impressed.
“The food is incredible,” she wrote. “Simple, fresh and inventive.”
