A house at 20 Mill Road in Calverton was demolished on August 31 by the Town of Brookhaven after it was seized by Suffolk County as a property tax forfeiture and transferred to the Town for demolition.

The house hadn’t been maintained for a number of years, according to the Town. The property is located within the Central Pine Barrens Preservation Area.

“This house has been a blight on the neighborhood for many years and has numerous Town code violations that make it a safety hazard,” said Town Supervisor Ed Romaine.

Another home in Mastic had been removed by the Town in late August as well.

“Finally, the neighbors will not have to deal with this eyesore any longer,” said Romaine. “I thank County Legislators Krupski and Mazzarella for working with the Town to clean up our community and preserve more open space.”
