Jamaica, NY - September 24, 2014 - Supportersize, is a recently founded 501(c) (3) organization and enables those affected by cancer to experience joy, solidarity, and achievement through physical activities and outdoor events.
The organization is led by people living with cancer, for people living with cancer. Supportersize organizes and hosts outdoor events and physical activities for people who live with cancer. All guests are welcome and all events are free of charge with encouraged donations. While Supportersize cannot claim to heal cancer, they can empower and strengthen people with moments of happiness, hope, and pride. Supportersize plans to host an event once a month and includes everything from yoga to skiing to stand up paddle boarding.
All events are led by licensed and experienced instructors. Events are non-competitive and people of all ages and athletic abilities are encouraged to participate. Yariv Kafri, triathlete, runner, yogi, surfer, skier and father of two, founded the Supportersize after he was diagnosed with cancer in his early forties. Even through chemotherapy, Yariv remained active. Exercising wasn't just a boon for his health, but a relief to him and his family. Unlike other cancer organizations, Supportersize focuses on allowing individuals to feel accomplished and empowered through physical activities.
Consequently, according to the American Cancer Society, it is estimated that 1.7 million new cases of Cancer will be discovered in 2014, and that physical activities post diagnosis “may be beneficial in improving quality of life, reducing fatigue, and assisting with energy balance.” Yariv is currently training for a three-day 56-mile run through the Colorado Rockies to raise awareness for Supportersize.
