Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Siela A. Bynoe (D – Westbury) applauded the unanimous Monday, Sept. 23 approval of a $13,500 Hotel-Motel Occupancy Tax Fund grant for the John J. Byrne Community Center in Uniondale.

The funds will be applied toward implementing and developing a program for a multicultural historical library at the Community Center that includes a collection of books, documents and other relevant materials; lectures, workshops and other educational events; family-friendly programs and activities; exhibitions and displays of artifacts, art and other culturally significant items; cultural celebrations, and open microphone-style events where community members are encouraged to share their own stories and experiences.

“A community center has the greatest potential to create a positive impact when it reflects and celebrates the diversity of the residents it serves, and this multicultural library will greatly enhance the vibrancy of the John J. Byrne Community center and its portfolio of programming,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Bynoe said. “I look forward to many more fruitful partnerships with Community Center President David Greaves that will benefit Uniondale residents, and I thank my Minority Caucus colleagues for making this investment possible through their unified support.”
