Port Jefferson, NY - September 28, 2015 - Buses will replace trains on the Port Jefferson Branch between Huntington and Port Jefferson from 10:45 p.m. until 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6 and Wednesday, October 7 while track inspections are performed using a specialized diagnostic car developed by Sperry Rail. The Sperry Rail Car is a bright yellow train fitted with ultrasonic and induction test equipment and is designed to detect internal rail defects not readily visible to the eye. Defects that are found will be corrected immediately by a crew of LIRR track maintenance workers. The Sperry Rail Car is used twice a year to inspect over 500 miles of LIRR track.
Westbound
Customers traveling west from station Port Jefferson through Greenlawn will board buses at their station up to 14 minutes later than normal for Hicksville where train service will resume. They anticipate up to 24 minutes of additional travel time depending upon destination.
Eastbound
Customers traveling to stations Greenlawn through Port Jefferson will disembark at Huntington and board buses for the balance of their trip, arriving up to 30 minutes later than normal.
