Suffolk SPCA: Massapequa Woman, Amityville Woman Charged Abandoning Three Cats in Tanner Park

After an investigation, detectives from the Suffolk County SPCA have charged a Massapequa woman and an Amityville woman with three counts of animal abandonment and one count of conspiracy to commit a crime each. The two trapped cats in East Islip under the pretense of neutering and returning the cats but instead abandoned three cats in Tanner Park. 
 
Roy Gross, Chief of the Suffolk SPCA said that its detectives charged Catherine Gropper, 32, of Massapequa, NY and Crystal Cahill, 39, of Amityville, NY each with three counts of Agriculture and Markets Law Animal Abandonment and one count of Penal Law Conspiracy 6th degree, misdemeanors. The two worked in concert under the auspices of preforming rescue work known as “TNR”, Trap, Neuter, and Return when three adult cats in their care were instead abandoned at Tanner Park in Copaigue. 
 
Gropper and Cahill are scheduled to appear in First District Court, Central Islip, on October 13, 2022.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
