Woman Killed in Amityville After Crashing Vehicle into School Mini Bus

Nia Cooper, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. The bus driver and one student suffered minor injuries.

Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a woman in North Amityville this morning.
 
Nia Cooper was driving a 2006 Honda Civic northbound on Albany Avenue, south of Russell Court, when her vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and struck a 2008 Chevrolet minibus, owned by Educational Bus, at approximately 8 a.m.
 
Cooper, 21, of Amityville, was pronounced dead at the scene. The bus driver, 29, of North Amityville, an adult male matron and a 13-year-old female student on the bus were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of minor injuries. The second student on the bus, a 14-year-old male, was not injured.
 
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
