Oyster Bay, NY - October 1, 2013 - Frank Lazzaro, holiday decorator of The White House through three administrations, will be the featured speaker at the December 15 meeting of the Long Island Horticultural Society in the Conference Center at Planting Fields Arboretum.  The program begins at 1:00 pm and is free to all Long Island gardeners.  Non-members of LIHS are asked to call 516 922-1352 or email LIHS to pre-register.

Mr. Lazzaro, a Long Island native, will share his colorful anecdotes and reminiscences acquired over many years of decorating The White House for holidays and state dinners during the Ford, Carter and Reagan administrations.  In addition, he will create several festive silk floral arrangements, which some lucky attendees will get to take home.

Also on the program is Irene Virag, LI writer, blogger and former gardening editor of Newsday, who will lead the group in a rendition of her very own gardener’s version of The Twelve Days of Christmas, a LIHS holiday tradition.

In addition, there will be a Chinese auction featuring fabulous prizes such as gift baskets, garden items, gift certificates, and more.   Refreshments will be served.

The LI Horticultural Society meets monthly at Planting Fields Arboretum and offers year-round educational programs, events and tours of gardens here and abroad.  Membership is open to all Long Island gardeners whether they are professionals, enthusiastic amateurs, or just like to stop and smell the roses.  For more information about the December 15 program, or membership in LIHS, please contact us at 516 922-1352 or ligardens-2013@yahoo.com, or visit the LIHS website at www.lihort.org.
