AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Suffolk County Police have arrested a bus aide for assaulting a student while riding in a school bus in Commack.

Commack, NY - October 3rd, 2013 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a bus aide for assaulting a student while riding in a school bus in Commack.

Richard Mason, a bus aide for Acme Bus Corp., was riding in a bus in Commack when he, in an attempt at discipline, grabbed the arm of a 5-year-old developmentally disabled boy and twisted it behind the student’s back, causing a fracture on September 30 at approximately 4 p.m. The students on the bus were from North Ridge Elementary School.

Following an investigation by Special Victims Section detectives, Mason, 39, of 106 Suffolk Ave., Brentwood, was arrested and charged with Assault 3rd Degree and Acting in a Manner to Injure a Child. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
