Nassau University Medical Center is going the extra mile to make sure women on Long Island and New York have access to state-of-the-art screening mammograms.in 3D
Offering the latest technology and state of the art in breast cancer detection, the three-dimensional breast tomosynthesis is the most effective imaging procedure when performing a mammography. Proven to find cancers earlier, the 3D mammogram oftentimes cuts the number of call backs for the patients because it is more efficient at the way its imaging program works.
This technology allows the radiologist to look though the tissue to better identify suspicious lesions, as opposed to a 2D composite flat view. While the 3D breast tomosynthesis screening still compresses the breast like a traditional mammogram, it takes multiple images at different angles to create a view through slices in a 3D image, with results in less than 24 hours.
