AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Man Dies After Crashing Into Dump Truck in North Babylon

North Babylon, NY - October 4th, 2013 - Alejandro Aguillar-Hernandez was driving a 1988 Ford dump truck westbound on Sunrise Highway Service Road, west of Route 231, in North Babylon, when his truck was struck by a 2003 Hyundai Sonata at approximately 7 p.m.  Aguillar-Hernandez pulled over into the left lane and he and his passenger got out of the truck.  The men crossed the service road to check on the driver of the Sonata.  
Several minutes after Aguillar-Hernandez pulled over, a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta that was also traveling westbound struck the rear of the parked Ford.

The driver of the Jetta, Thomas Hudson, 28, of Lincoln Street, Babylon, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital by North Babylon Rescue where he was pronounced dead.

Aguillar-Hernandez, 36, of Plover Place, Seaford, and his passenger, were not injured.

The Volkswagen was impounded for a safety check. Suffolk County Police Motor Carrier Safety Section officers responded and conducted an inspection and safety check on the 1988 Ford dump truck.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash and have not been interviewed to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
