AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Bedside Arraignment for Hospitalized Police Officer on Reckless Endangerment Charge

An off-duty Suffolk County police officer arrested last week after allegedly driving the wrong way on Sunrise Highway where he crashed into a van killing the driver pleaded not guilty.

The investigation is continuing. Reckless endangerment in the first degree is a class “D” felony. Judge David Morris presided at the arraignment and set cash bail at $150,000, or $250,000 bond.

Suffolk County, NY - October 4, 2016 - An off-duty Suffolk County police officer arrested last week after allegedly driving the wrong way on Sunrise Highway where he crashed into a van killing the driver pleaded not guilty to a charge of reckless endangerment in the first degree at a bedside arraignment today.

Robert Scheuerer, 24, remains in serious condition at Southside Hospital where he was taken after the September 27th crash in the westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway, between exits 39 and 40.  Police said Scheuerer was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane.

The Suffolk County Police Department announced last week that Scheuerer was suspended from duty without pay.
