October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and there are plenty of ways you can help raise awareness and funds to support research and treatment. According to a report in Newsday, Nassau County is seventh in New York State and Suffolk is 17th for incidence of breast cancer. See more stats here.
Pink your Pumpkin in Support
Fortunato Breast Health Center at Mather Hospital hosts its annual Pink Your Pumpkin in support of breast cancer awareness. During its Paint Port Pink month-long event, the hospital invites you to dcorate your pumpkin in the pinkest fashion possible and then send a photo ccourt1@northwell.edu before 10/20/20. Join a webinar
The Paint Port Pink calendar of events includes a host of webinars to help people get informed about breast health. Topics include diagnosing breast cancer, oncology and breast cancer treatment, breast reconstruction and surgery.
Support Pink by the Bay
Towns in Islip and Babylon will be decorating themselves pink for the month to help raise awareness. Northwell Health and Imbert Cancer Center are promoting the campaign, which has local businesses decorating their storefronts pink and providing information and giveaways as they raise money for breast cancer research. Join a Virtual Walk
Most fundraising walks and runs have gone virtual in 2020 due to COVID-19 but you can still do your part. The Manhasset Women's Coalition Against Breast Cancer is hosting its virtual walk this month as is TangerFit5K.
Roll In the Drive-Thru Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Event
A different take on this event this year. According to the official website, this will be a first-ever, unique event - a rolling pep-rally at the Jones Beach State Park. For more details click here.
