AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Ten-Month-Old Child in Stroller Fatally Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash

Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that caused the death of an infant in a stroller that was being pushed by her pregnant mother.

Amityville, NY - October 6th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that caused the death of an infant in a stroller that was being pushed by her pregnant mother.
 
Yancy Arevalo, 29, was walking eastbound across Route 110 in North Amityville just south of Nathalie Avenue, pushing a stroller with her 10-month-old daughter, Britney Arevalo, inside when they were struck by 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck travelling northbound on Route 110 at approximately 7:00 p.m.
 
Arevalo, 29, of Amityville, and her child were transported by North Amityville Rescue Squad to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where the infant died from her injuries on Sunday at 1:46 a.m. Arevalo suffered only minor injuries, but she is being held for observation because she is pregnant.
 
The driver of the pickup, Arthur Plowden, 46, of North Amityville was not injured. His vehicle was impounded for safety checks.
 
This investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
