Mastic Beach, NY - October 6, 2017 - The William Floyd Colonials varsity tennis team knocked off Mattituck 5-2 in the regular season finale to conclude another successful season which saw this impressive group of young ladies take their sixth consecutive League and Division title, a remarkable run which includes a 59-3 team record in League play including a 41-match win streak that ended early last season. This remarkable six-year run includes a 101-10 record, a Suffolk County Championship in 2014, an appearance in the finals in 2013 and, to date, five “final four” appearances. They have now qualified for the playoffs for 15 consecutive years.

“I'm so proud of the players this year who worked extremely hard in the offseason and over the summer to improve their game play,” said head coach Dave Pia, the two-time United States Tennis Association Coach of the Year. “We are looking forward to postseason play.”

In the regular season finale, the Colonials were led by three-time All-County player Brooke Fernandez who defeated Liz Dwyer in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in first singles. Katie Senetto also won at fourth singles, and all three doubles teams won their matches.

Team members will be playing in the Individual Tennis Tournament this upcoming weekend at Shoreham Wading River, which will determine who will receive All-County and All-State honors. Team Playoffs will begin on October 17.
