Shoreham, NY - October 7th, 2013 - On Monday, September 23rd, Legislator Sarah Anker joined the members of the Tesla Science Center in a ceremony honoring the legacy of the late inventor Nikola Tesla. Honored guests arrived at the site of Tesla’s former Wardenclyffe laboratory in Shoreham for the unveiling of the Nikola Tesla monument. Dignitaries included Congressman Tim Bishop, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, and local government officials. President Nikolictraveled thousands of milesto Long Island to unveil the statue of Nikola Tesla.
“I am proud to join the Tesla Science Center in celebrating this special day,”said Legislator Anker.“ I commend the organization for the tremendous work of commemoratingthe contributions of Nikola Tesla, a man who received little recognition during his lifetime. The Tesla Science Center will add to the rich history of our community and will inspire the future inventors of tomorrow.”
Nikola Tesla is best known for his contributions to the design of wireless technology and the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system. In the late 1990s, members of the Shoreham community were inspired by the work of Nikola Tesla and sought to acquire the historic Wardenclyffe Tesla laboratory with the goal of transforming the property into a regional science center.
