Lindsay Calls On Musumeci To Return Thousands In Contributions That He Took From Developers
Sayville, NY - October 9th, 2013 - Today Bill Lindsay, son of Former Presiding Officer Bill Lindsay and candidate for Suffolk County Legislator called on Anthony Musumeci to return thousands of dollars in campaign contributions that he took from developers and construction companies while on the Islip Town Planning board.
“Anthony Musumeci took thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from developers and construction companies, some of whom had projects before him on the planning board,” said Lindsay. “Whether the donations influenced his votes or not, the appearance of impropriety is enough to make it a conflict of interest. It only calls into question why he would remain silent while developers build two big-box stores that many in the community are strongly against.”
Lindsay noted that in Anthony Musumeci’s political literature he says he will bring, “increased transparency” to county government. Yet according to the New York State Board of Elections Financial Disclosure filings he has taken a total of $11,550 in contributions from developers and construction companies while on the Islip Town Planning Board.
“As a member of the planning board he makes decisions that impact the community and our quality of life, so to accept any contribution from developers calls into question if those donations influenced those decisions. If he truly wants to increase transparency in county government then the first step is for him to return the thousands of dollars in contributions he took while as a member of the Islip planning board and eliminate any perceived conflicts of interests or improprieties.”
Lindsay went on to say that “I am not against the Serota Properties Islip Pines project; it has the potential to attract more people to our beautiful downtowns and main streets. However, at its current state, communication is lacking between the developers and the community. The plan that is currently proposed takes away potential revenue for our small businesses and is not sustainable for our local economy. With this in mind I would like to work with the developers and the members of the community to find some middle ground that all parties can agree upon."
