Nassau County Police Dept: Queens Man Arrested for Levittown Robbery

Levittown, NY - October 14th, 2013 - Second Squad detectives report the arrest of an East Elmhurst, Queens man on October 13, 2013 for a Grand Larceny that occurred at 3:18 pm in Levittown.

According to detectives, police were dispatched to a Straight Lane residence for a larceny from a vehicle that had just occurred. 911 received and broadcasted information from the 59 year old victim, that the subjects fled the scene in a blue Caravan with “Out of State” license plates. Upon police arrival at the victim’s home, it was further broadcasted that the larceny involved a large collection of rare coins.

An assisting officer, who was responding to the scene of the larceny, observed a vehicle matching the description that was given and followed the car, that was being driven by Steven Cano, 25, of 25-26 96  Street, westbound on Hempstead Turnpike into the Nassau Mall parking lot. After losing sight of the vehicle, Cano was observed running through the lot and after a brief foot pursuit; he was placed into custody without incident.

The defendant’s vehicle, which was occupied by two other unknown subjects who fled the scene, was located in the parking lot with the proceeds from the theft.
Cano is charged with Grand Larceny 2nd Degree and Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on 10/14/2013.
