Marshall Warren, a native of Laurel Hollow, NY in the Town of Oyster Bay, has made history as the first Black captain of Boston College’s NCAA Division I men's hockey team, a first in the team’s 100-year history.
Warren, 21, a defenseman, was initially picked by the Minnesota Wild during the 2019 NHL Draft, but temporarily put off pursuing his professional hockey career when Boston College named him as their team’s captain in April.
"Being named captain meant the world to me, especially at a place like Boston College," Warren said. "It's always been a goal of mine to be a leader and to be a captain at Boston College. When the opportunity arrived, it was so hard to pass up."
Warren, now a senior and a Finance major at BC, was picked for the role of team captain after turning in a stellar performance during his junior season, scoring a career-high of 21 points (six goals, 15 assists) in 37 games, twice what he achieved during his sophomore year where he scored 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in 23 games.
"I think this year my biggest goals are for our team to have a good year and for us to make the [Hockey East] playoffs, make a run," he said. "And personally, I just want to have a good year for myself, prove myself, dominate like I know I can, set the bar high for myself and have a really strong senior year. I think I put in the work in the summer, and I think I'm going to surprise a lot of people this year with my play on the ice."
