Motocross Track Proposed For Former Vineyard in Calverton
According to a Riverhead Town Planning Board agenda item, a Motocross track is being proposed for a 15-acre plot of land in Calverton. The applicant is looking for approval to develop the land and add an outdoor motocross track, parking areas, lighting, landscaping, and related site improvements at 2822 River Road in Calverton. The property was once “The Hidden Vineyard,” a small winery that reviewers on Yelp called a hidden gem.
A motocross track exists in Calverton already on Edwards Avenue called the Moto 1 Long Island club.
According to a listing on Loopnet.com, a commercial real estate site, the 15-acre property is mostly undeveloped and has “so many options.” There is a house presently on the property.
The land is zoned commercial for industrial use. It was previously used as a vineyard. It is listed as an opportunity zone property, which the IRS describes as an economic development tool that allows people to invest in distressed areas in the United States.
“Their purpose is to spur economic growth and job creation in low-income communities while providing tax benefits to investors,” the IRS says on its website.
The agenda item lists the proposal as “Duffy MX Motocross Track” and is on the agenda for the Thursday, October 19th meeting.
