AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Buses Replace Trains on Ronkonkoma & Port Jefferson Branches for Track & Switch Work This Weekend

Ronkonkoma, NY - October 18th, 2013 - Buses will replace trains on the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches for varying periods from Saturday, October 19 through the early morning hours of Monday, October 21 to allow the Long Island Rail Road to perform track and switch replacement work.
 
Busing for Ronkonkoma Branch Switch Replacement – Sunday 9 PM to Monday 2AM
On the Ronkonkoma Branch, buses will provide service between Hicksville and Ronkonkoma from 9 PM Sunday, October 20 until 2 AM Monday, October 21 while the LIRR replaces switches along the route. Eastbound customers should expect 23 minutes of additional  travel time depending on their destination. Westbound travelers will board buses at station. Ronkonkoma through Bethpage up to 24 minutes earlier than the usual train departure times.
 
Port Jefferson Branch Track Work – Saturday Only
For those traveling on the Port Jefferson Branch, buses will replace trains between Huntington and Port Jefferson on Sunday, October 20 from 12:30 AM until 3:30 PM. Workers will be welding rail and performing other track maintenance. The work outage will affect eight eastbound trains that will arrive at their final destinations up to 26 minutes later than usual. Eight westbound trains will also be affected with those customers boarding buses at their home station up to 18 earlier than normal train depart times.
