Written by Long Island News & PR  |  20. October 2016

Hauppauge, NY - October 19, 2016 - Hundreds of law enforcement experts from across the nation will be gathering at the Upsky Long Island Hotel in Hauppauge on Thursday, October 20th for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office’s Annual Gang Intelligence Seminar. The event, which is in its tenth year, is co-hosted with the Middle Atlantic-Great Lakes Organized Crime Law Enforcement Network.

Sheriff Vincent F. DeMarco will give the opening remarks at the forum, which will feature presentations by experts in criminal street gangs on topics such as gang trends in Suffolk County and “Interdicting and Circumventing the Gang Influences in Schools.” The County Sheriff has made partnering with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies a priority of his Administration and he says the Annual Gang Intelligence Seminar gives officials the opportunity to share information on current trends and improve collaboration.

DeMarco stated, “The recent murder of two young women in Brentwood, as well as other individuals by suspected gang members, underscores the need for greater collaboration to suppress and prevent gang violence in Suffolk County.  There must be a long-term commitment by law enforcement and a diversity of stakeholders working together to protect public safety in areas that are prone to gang proliferation, and this will be the focus of those attending our forum this year.”

Members of the media are invited to attend between the hours of 11:30 am and 1:30 pm to speak with Sheriff DeMarco and experts in gang-related intelligence about current topics and trends in Suffolk County. There will be limited access to the scheduled seminars.

The Upsky Long Island Hotel is located at 110 Motor Parkway in Hauppauge, which located near Exit 53 (Wicks Road) off I-495.
