Aviation Section officers responded to a notification of a 30-foot Wellcraft that was quickly taking on water approximately five miles south of Moriches Inlet in East Moriches.

East Moriches, NY - October 19, 2017 - Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers assisted in rescuing three men after their boat began taking on water south of Moriches Inlet on Wednesday, October 18, 2017.
 
Aviation Section officers responded to a 5:20 p.m. notification made by members of the United States Coast Guard regarding a 30-foot Wellcraft that was quickly taking on water approximately five miles south of Moriches Inlet in East Moriches. Aviation Section officers located the boat one mile south of the inlet and guided Coast Guard officers to the Wellcraft. The victims safely abandoned their boat before it sank and boarded a Coast Guard vessel. A short time later they boarded Marine Bureau Mike and were transported to a marina on the Patchogue River.
 
The boat’s owner, Brian Buchrieser, 50, of East Setauket, his 14-year-old son and their friend, Vito Carnaza, 49, were all wearing life jackets and were not injured.
