Long Island is losing another small business after decades serving the local community.

Popular pickle joint, Pickle Packin’ Papa, is closing at the end of the year, according to a post on their Facebook page. The owner announced yesterday that patrons will only be able to enjoy their pickles until December 31, 2022.

“I am retiring after 38 years,” owner, Joy Glas, confirmed with LongIsland.com.

Glas said that Pickle Packin’ Papa has been in the same location at 593 Route 25A in Rocky Point for all those years, since the mid-1980s. But Pickle Packin’ Papa isn’t just found in Rocky Point. The store has been a regular weekly vendor at the Port Jefferson Farmers Market.

“I will be there until November 13,” Glas said.

Pickle Packin’ Papa sells a variety of fresh pickles in flavors like jalapeno and half sour. They also sell pickled and marinated olives, peppers, cauliflower and eggplant.

People will certainly miss the famous half sour pickles as well as seeing the inflatable pickles hanging outside her storefront as they drive by. Glas said she’s not leaving Long Island, just looking to spend more time with the people she loves.

“Same life, just more time to enjoy it,” she said. “No one is happier than my children and grandchildren.”

Head over to Pickle Packin’ Papa at 593 Route 25A, Rocky Point before December 31 to grab a pint or two of these legendary pickles. Or visit them at the Port Jefferson Farmers Market every Sunday at Harborfront Park in Port Jefferson.
