The A1 Cares Foundation serves as the fundraising arm of A1 Roofing, a family-run Port Jefferson Station-based company that has deep roots in the Long Island community, and with the charitable organization – having just launched earlier this year – set to hold their first-ever fundraising effort this very month.

Vincent Malizia – A1 Roofing co-owner, along with his brother John – noted that his company has always considered it to be vitally important to give back to the community that they have been serving all of these years, and to that end, A1 has always played an active part in performing charitable work for many years now; in an average year, A1 typically doles out a large sum each year for many different causes.

But, in an effort to ramp up their philanthropic efforts and take them to the next level, Vincent and his brother created the 501c not-for-profit A1 Cares Foundation in 2024, whose mission is to raise money to support families in need.

The A1 Cares Foundation is holding the organization's official kickoff party in the form of a formal dinner at Huntington's Oheka Castle on Thursday, March 20, with the event raising funds to support an important cause to Vincent’s heart, which is autism awareness. The general public is welcome to attend, with tickets going on sale for the event shortly.

However, the organization's fundraising efforts will begin in earnest prior to that swanky affair, with an important event scheduled for this upcoming Thursday, October 24 in order to help raise money to support not only a very worthy cause, but one that is very close to Vincent personally as well- the wife of a friend of his from high school who has unfortunately taken ill.

“We have a good friend of ours, Kyra Storeveit, who at the age of just 36 years old was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, so we thought that supporting her at this event would be very fitting,” he said. “She had been diagnosed right after she and her husband had had their first child.”

The A1 Cares Foundation fundraising effort for Kyra Storeveit is a wide-ranging effort that Vincent said gives concerned members of the community an excellent opportunity to get involved – as well as enjoy a night out on the town and an excellent meal – in the form of a partnership with three very well-regarded Long Island restaurants.

“We've teamed up with three restaurants, two in Suffolk County and one in Nassau,” he said. “All you have to do is make a lunch or dinner reservation with your friends, family, co-workers, and a percentage of each bill will be donated to breast cancer research.”  Take out is also an option to help this great cause.

The three restaurants involved in the fundraising effort on the 24th are City Cellar American Modern in Westbury, Butera's of Sayville, and The Fifth Season in Port Jefferson.

“I have a relationship with either the managers or owners of all three locations, so instead of cold-calling or going to random restaurants, I figured that I should get started with people that I know in the industry,” Vincent said. “They were all very welcoming and thought it was a great idea, so the situation is a win-win for everyone involved- we bring some business to these restaurants and in the process raise money for cancer research. Everything just kind of fell into place perfectly.”

Vincent himself said he will be attending The Fifth Season with upwards of 10 people that evening, ensuring a hearty contribution on his part alone. However, if you're interested in helping but are unable to make the restaurant event on the 24th, Vincent noted that you can still get involved by mailing a donation check directly to A1 cares' main office, located at 51 Nesconset highway, Port Jefferson Station, New York, 11766.
