Cops: Irate Bethpage Man Assaults Responding Firefighter after Joyriding Teens Crash BWM into His Home

The Eighth Squad reports the arrest of a Bethpage man for an Assault that occurred on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at 3:55 PM in Bethpage.
 
According to detectives, officers responded to a N. Windhorst Avenue residence for an auto accident at approximately 3:20 PM. It was determined that a 16-year-old male was operating a 2024 black BMW when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a house. The vehicle was also occupied by two additional males, 16 and 17 years old. There were no injuries reported as a result of the accident.
 
The Bethpage Fire Department responded to the scene of the accident. While a 52-year-old male firefighter was acting in his official capacity inside of the damaged home, the Defendant Salvatore Conte, 70, of 182 N. Windhorst Avenue became irate and began pushing him, causing an injury to his hip. Officers attempted to place the defendant under arrest but he resisted. Officers utilized their Electronic Control Device (Taser) and the defendant was subdued and placed under arrest. The injured firefighter was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.
 
Defendant Conte is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned on Monday, October 21, 2024 at First District Court, Hempstead.
