AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT MONDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam. from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. NCPD: Elmont Man Charged with Assault, Resisting Arrest

Elmont, NY - October 22nd, 2013 -  The Fourth Squad reports the Arrest of an Elmont man that occurred at his residence on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 12:35 A.M.

According to detectives, Fourth Precinct police officers responded to the report of a disturbance between two males at 179 109th Avenue. When officers attempted to investigate Damian Pimentel, age 22 of the same address who was not part of the disturbance became uncooperative shoving one officer causing him to fall backwards striking his head on a chair. As police attempted to place the defendant into custody he refused to be handcuffed flailing his arms and after a struggle Pimentel was apprehended. The injured officer was removed to an area hospital where he was treated and released for head, neck, back and shoulder pain.

The defendant was charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday, October 22, 2013.
