Centereach, NY - October 26, 2014 - Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a man in Centereach early Saturday morning.
Samir Patel was in a 2009 Ford van, facing southbound on the right shoulder of the northbound lane of Nicolls Road, when he attempted to drive the vehicle around to go northbound and his vehicle was struck by a 2004 Ford van at 1:15 a.m. The 2004 Ford van, driven by David Greene, was entering Nicolls Road northbound from Middle Country Road.
Patel, 51, of Holtsville, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Oswaldo Borja, 64, of Holtsville and Greene, 56, of Lake Grove, were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
