Man Arrested For Endangering the Welfare of his 13-Month-Old Son
Medford, NY - October 27, 2013 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a Medford man who left his 13-month-old son alone in his apartment this afternoon.
Sixth Precinct police officers responded to a 911 call regarding an infant crying at a house located at 2 Little Treasure Drive in Medford at approximately 1:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they heard the cries of a child coming from the basement apartment of the multi-dwelling house. After realizing that the apartment was empty, officers forced their way into the apartment. In one of the bedrooms officers found a crying 13-month-old boy alone in a crib. Responding Officer Dena Miceli comforted the child, checked his health and changed the baby’s soiled diaper. Officer Miceli and a neighbor cared for the boy until the boy’s mother responded and took custody of the child.
Officers discovered that the boy’s father, Kelly Voss, 44, had been entrusted with the boy’s care during a scheduled weekend visitation. Voss, of 2 Little Treasure Drive in Medford, returned to the apartment approximately forty minutes after Sixth Precinct officers arrived and was arrested.
Voss was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He will be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on October 28.
Child Protective Services was notified.
