Elmont, NY - October 29, 2018 - The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Freeport man for an incident that occurred on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11:55 p.m. in Elmont.
According to police, officers on patrol observed a 2009 red Nissan Altima make a right turn from a left turn only lane and head eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike. Officers initiated a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. During the investigation, the driver, Jabori Gibson, 27, fled the scene southbound on Terrace Avenue.
While fleeing from the officers the defendant entered a dead end street and turned around. As he now headed northbound on Terrace Avenue he struck a parked vehicle and a police officer’s vehicle, causing front end damage to all three vehicles. The defendant then headed eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike before striking a utility pole and coming to a stop against a stone wall. The defendant then fled on foot and after a brief search was located in a yard on Meacham Avenue. The defendant was placed into custody without further incident. There were no injuries reported.
Defendant Jabori Gibson is charged with Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, two (2) counts of Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer 3rd Degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd Degree and multiple VTL Violations. He also had an open warrant from the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on a later date.
