Long Beach, NY - October 31, 2016 - Homicide Squad detectives report a fatal vehicular accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 8:30 am in Long Beach.

According to detectives, while on foot attempting to cross Austin Boulevard at the intersection of Marina Path, a 70 year old Northport man was struck by a 2014 Honda Civic that was being operated by a 74 year old male who was heading southbound on Austin Boulevard. As a result of the collision Jan Kalas suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County Police Medic. The vehicle was brake and safety checked at the scene.

The investigation into this non-criminal accident continues.
