Ronkonkoma Man Arrested for DWI with Four Children in Vehicle

Suffolk County Police arrested a Ronkonkoma man last night for driving while intoxicated and crashing with his four young children in the car.

Ronkonkoma, NY - November 3rd, 2014 - Suffolk County Police arrested a Ronkonkoma man last night for driving while intoxicated and crashing with his four young children in the car.

Courtney Barker, 28, was driving a 2006 Cadillac SRX eastbound on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 59 when his vehicle struck a 2012 Buick, causing damage to both vehicles. Barker had his wife and four children, ages 2, 4, 9 and 14, in the vehicle with him at the time of the incident, but no one was injured.

Upon interview by police, it was determined that Barker was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law), Driving While Intoxicated and four counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He was also issued three citations for vehicle and traffic law violations.

Barker, of Warren Avenue, Ronkonkoma, is being held at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
