Massive Gas Explosion Destroys Dutchess County Home; Approximately 12 Injuries Reported So Far

According to reports, a gas explosion destroyed a single-family home in Wappingers Falls - a village located Dutchess County, NY - at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, resulting in at about 12 injuries so far.

The home, located on Brick Row near Mill Street, was completely collapsed by the explosion, with a Central Hudson Gas & Electric representative informing the local media that the fire and subsequent explosion was triggered by a 3/4-inch gas line being inadvertently breached by a contractor.

The Dutchess County Emergency Management department noted that several surrounding streets were closed off to traffic while firefighters and first responders worked to contain the blaze.

Both gas and electricity have been cut off to the area surrounding the blast until it has been confirmed to be safe to restore service.

Despite about a dozen injuries being reported, there has been no reports of any fatalities associated with the incident as of press time.
