NCPD: Baldwin Man in Jail on Multiple Charges after Attacking Roommate with Knife, Injuring Police During Arrest
The First Squad reports on the arrest of a Baldwin man for an Assault that occurred on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 6:00 AM in Baldwin.
According to Detectives, Defendant Marcus O’Brien, 35, of 2156 Grand Avenue got into a verbal altercation with his roommate, a 53-year-old male, that turned physical. Defendant Marcus O’Brien struck the victim several times with a closed fist, causing substantial pain, swelling and bruising to the victim. The Defendant left the room, and came back with a large kitchen knife and stabbed the victim several times, causing deep lacerations to his left shoulder and right arm.
The victim fought back causing the knife to drop, the Defendant proceeded to place both his hands around the victim’s neck causing the victim to have difficulty breathing and then he bit the victim’s right ear, causing a large piece to come off. After a short time, the victim was able to go to a neighbor and call for Police.
Officers responded and placed Defendant Marcus O’Brien under arrest without further incident. The victim and Defendant were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The victim is listed in stable condition.
Following his release from the hospital; as the Defendant was escorted by Officers to a marked Nassau Police vehicle, Defendant O’Brien became uncooperative, refused lawful commands and attempted physical force towards the Officers. As a result, an Officer sustained injuries; he received assessment and treatment at the hospital.
Defendant Marcus O’Brien is charged with Assault 1st, Assault 2nd, Assault 3rd Degrees, Attempted Assault 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, Menacing 2nd Degree, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing/Circulation, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Harassment 2nd Degree and Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree.
